College Access Program Advisor

General Summary: Responsible for the implementation of College Access Program at local High Schools. The College Access Program Advisor helps coordinate all aspects of the College Access Program including curriculum delivery, workshops, student advisement sessions, and recruitment/outreach for various Fulfillment Fund Programs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:(Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of the Supervisor)
·         Have strong knowledge of LAUSD structure, policies, procedures and student graduation requirements
·         Distribute and collect Fulfillment Fund program enrollment forms to students in assigned caseloads
·         Deliver monthly in-class lessons of the College Access Program curriculum
·         Be familiar with and informed about all admissions and other policies and concerns related to California Community Colleges, UC/CSU, and private colleges
·         Be familiar with and informed about all policies and concerns related to federal and state financial aid
·         Prepare for off-site service delivery weekly (classroom materials, lesson plans, classroom activities, supplies, etc.)
·         Meet with students individually to review academic records and provide assistance with academic planning and decision-making
·         Help students identify and apply to scholarships, volunteer work, internships, and summer opportunities
·         Work with students on college applications, personal statements, and registering for SAT/ACT exams
·         Perform ongoing research on pressing educational issues and best practices as it relates to the established curriculum and college access
·         Create, strengthen and maintain working relationships with school partners
·         Communicate regularly with teachers and administrators regarding program needs and program activities to ensure efficient onsite operation of the program
·         Recommend modifications to existing curriculum/program materials and create instructional activities in collaboration with the College Access Program team
·         As needed, conduct individualized meetings to ensure student needs are met, and to encourage regular participation in program activities and opportunities
·         Work inter-departmentally and with Program Events staff to coordinate and chaperone local experiential learning college day trips
·         Work closely with supervisor to coordinate school site visits with organization supporters, donors, and board members
·         Help coordinate, recruit for, and implement enrichment program opportunities
·         Help recruit for and on occasion chaperone overnight trips
·         Participate in on-going professional development trainings
·         Use social media to highlight student involvement and accomplishments, and to increase awareness about the organization’s impact
·         Participate in inter-departmental committees
·         Periodically collect and validate student related data and submit reports regularly
·         On occasion, serve as liaison between Development staff, senior management, and students
·         On occasion, attend and support annual fundraising events
·         Assist in presentations made to potential donors and fundraising sources
·         Help coordinate additional special projects and student services as identified by the Program’s Associate Director

Qualities and Qualifications:

·         Highly motivated, enthusiastic, assertive, and able to exercise good judgment
·         Conscientious about priorities, display good time management and positive attitude
·         Maintain personal appearance and professional demeanor
·         Professional presentation and oral communication skills
·         Ability to work independently and in teams
·         Self-starter, anticipates needs and able to take initiative when necessary
·         Able to demonstrate accountability to students, organization, supervisors, team, and school-site staff
·         Open to sharing ideas and expertise in efforts to improve and develop existing programs
·         Ability to work in a fast pace environment, adapt to change, and respond favorably to feedback

Education and/or Experience:
·         A bachelor’s degree is required
·         Extensive work experience with high school students/at-risk youth
·         Work experience in college access and outreach
·         At least one year of classroom teaching experience or two years group instruction/facilitation experience
·         Bilingual Spanish is a plus
·         Credential is a plus
