First-Gen Student Vladimir is Prepping for College

We are settling into the new school year, and Fulfillment Fund students are getting ready for the next step in their educational path. One such student, Vladimir Galindo, a senior at NOW Academy, is starting his last year of high school and getting ready to apply to college.

“I feel like ever since freshman year, I’ve been wanting to be a senior and now that I am here, I feel accomplished. I’ve taken college classes, have helped my community and I have so much to look forward to (applying to college). I am ready to start my senior year journey,” Vladimir shared.

Vladimir has been part of the Fulfillment Fund’s College Access Program since the 9th grade where he has received classroom presentations on A-G course completion, financial literacy and college planning.

He said, “I will be the first person in my family to go to college, so the Fulfillment Fund has been a huge help with guiding me on the different college requirements and because of them I’m ready to apply for college this year.”

Now, Vladimir will begin working with our Fulfillment Fund college counselors to receive hands-on guidance with his personal statement, college applications and financial aid applications such as FAFSA. Together, they will also identify colleges and universities that best match Vladimir’s education goals.

“My goal is to get accepted into several UC schools and Cal State schools. I especially want to attend Cal State LA because it’s more affordable and closer to home. I would like to go into the communication field and perhaps study journalism,” said Vladimir.

We are excited to see all the colleges Vladimir will get accepted to, and we’ll touch base with him near the end of the school year to see where he decides to go to college!
